Camping Party Invitation

So if you follow Design Fancy you know I love to throw parties! Actually I love any excuse to design an invitation, and Mason's second birthday was the perfect excuse! If you haven't noticed, my last name is camp and that is what I went with for the theme, a camping party. I was going for less campfires and tin foil dinners, and more for a retro summer camp sort of a feel.

More often than not, my design process becomes experimental. I knew I wanted there to be a crest sort of shape that acted a sort of the summer camp logo. I also knew I wanted it to look stamped and retro. I don't generally like when something is faux stamped in photoshop or illustrator, you can usually tell. I also knew that I could not afford to purchase custom rubber stamps (I looked into it, it would have been pretty pricey). While I was racking my brain to try and figure out how to achieve this look, I remembered an art project I did with kids while working in an after school program in Idaho. Styrofoam Printmaking! Have you heard of it, or tried it before? Google it! I have done it before, but didn't think of it as a serious art form. People, it is! Basically all you do is gouge into a styrofoam plate with a ball point pen or some other pointy tool, paint over it and press it on paper. You can create some pretty sweet stuff with this technique! The possibilities are endless. I'll share more about the process next week.

So back to the invitation...My sister and I stayed up real late one night gouging and painting different shapes on plates (thanks Lollie), then I scanned them in and added the type. All the fun shapes started out on a styrofoam plate.

I love how it turned out! It's bright and fun, but not babyish. It was the perfect intro to his fun little party! Check back in next week for more party details (the party favors were real cute) and more on styrofoam printmaking.

P.S. If you think you would like this for your own party leave a comment. If I get enough interest I'll create a version for my etsy shop.

Mason's Party Sneak Peek

Hello friends. Today I'm getting ready for Mason's 1st birthday so I thought I share a little something from his party. I found cheap little anchor charms and thought it would be cute to add them to the invitation so I went with a nautical theme. I did not, however, end up using the charms.
Next week I'll show you all the little details and a DIY for you! Hope your weekend is awesome! bye.

Kiah and Ramon's Invitations

I love a challenge, and this invitation was definitely that! When Kiah and Ramon decided that they wanted a mason jar on their invitation I was so scared. I am not an illustrator and don't pretend to be one, but I worked it out and gave them a mason jar. They loved it and I sort of love it too!

I went with a watercolor look done digitally in photoshop (something I hadn't tried before). This is definitely something I will be trying again! What do you think?

Holiday Entertaining Part 2

As I told you last post, I love to entertain, partly because it gives me an excuse to decorate (who doesn't love an excuse to decorate?). I also enjoy creating an experience for my guests with little treats on their plates, or fun place cards. Today I'm sharing some printables that match the Thanksgiving Feast Invitation to help you to give your guests a little something different this Thanksgiving. It's called the Give Thanks Party Pack. Click the link below to download.

GIVE THANKS PARTY PACK DOWNLOAD

In the party pack are a few fun little details to add to your Thanksgiving Feast, including place cards.

Also included in the pack are gift tags. Wouldn't it be so to find a mini loaf of pumpkin bread on your plate? You could also use the place cards as gift tags.

When you download the party pack you will also muffin/ dessert toppers. You could stick these in any dessert, (everyone's slice of pie maybe? so cute!)

I hope you enjoy the free party pack download, I know your guests will.

Tomorrow I'll be sharing another place setting idea that I used last year for our family Thanksgiving. Tomorrow is the last day to enter the giveaway, so be sure to hop on over to the Facebook page and enter to win some holiday cards.

Holiday Entertaining

Thank you to everyone who has entered the holiday card giveaway (if you haven't, there is still time). It's so fun to see which your comments about holiday cards are you favorite.

I think one thing people probably don't know about me is that I love to entertain. I'm always trying to come up with some reason to have people over or to throw a party, especially if it involves designing an invitation for the event. I think every great party needs a great invitation to start with, so that's why today I've created a little Thanksgiving Feast invitation for you to download. (click below)

There are 2 per page on a white background so you can print on whatever color paper you like (I think mine will be on cream, or a white shimmer).

I hope you'll use it for your up coming feast, and I hope you'll come back tomorrow for some place setting ideas and to see what other goodies I've got up my sleeve!

The Thanksgiving Feast invitation is for personal use only and may not be redistributed or sold. For other uses please ask for permission. I would love to be featured on other blogs but, if you mention the invitation in a blog or other forms, please link back to this post.

Recent Work

So remember a LONG time ago (like April) when I shared with you an invite I was working on? Well the two love birds got married last month so I can finally share with you the finished invitation. Are you ready? TA-DAH!

I love how it turned out! It's simple and refined, but not too formal for their hawaiian themed wedding. I was able to see the couple's wedding video and Katherine looked beautiful! Her dress was so simple and timeless (I wish I had seen it when I was getting married)! Congrats you two!

'Tis the Season

Why hello there friends! Did you have a wonderful Halloween? Did you trick-or-treat? What did you dress up as? How much candy did you get? Did you know, according to The Biggest Loser last week Americans eat an average of 24lbs or candy per person, per year. I went trick-or-treating for the first time in a LONG time (like since middle school) with my "little monster" of course! We didn't bring home 24 lbs, but it was a pretty good load for a first timer (too bad he doesn't get to eat it).

So have you taken family photo's yet for your holiday cards? Get them ready because 6 photo cards just opened up in the design fancy shop last night! I'm so excited to have them up for you to purchase! Which one will you choose? I haven't decided which one I want to send out for my family yet! I kind of love this one in orange though.

invitation design

my wedding invitation

I love to design wedding invitations! They can be really extravagant or fairly simple. There are endless options for invitations. The invitation should say something about the couple and should be the intro to your wedding. To me receiving an invitation in the mail is like receiving a gift and it should feel like you're unwrapping a gift. I'll share more on my theories about invitations later...

surprise! we had hidden pictures behind the band

I've been working on several design projects for clients and the one I'm working on currently is for a Hawaiian themed wedding. Fun right? When we discussed what they wanted they mentioned a 5x7 card, front and back with the reception info on the back, and they liked the idea of having a border that the 4x6 picture they are adding would fit into. Their colors are coral and yellow and the bride mentioned hibiscus flowers, other than that I had total freedom.

Below you can flip through the invites (when you flip to the next page you'll see the front of the invite right next to it's corresponding back). I want to know what you think, which one would you choose if it were your wedding (I definitely know which one I would pick)?

If you or someone you know is interested in custom designed invitations, send me an email! I can work with any budget.
